First of all I’d like to apologize for the date changes of the Pond Creation, Tractor Maintenance and Pig keeping courses and hope that this has not inconvenienced too many of you. Please let me know if you have any difficulty with the new date if I haven’t already managed to get in touch with you.
We now have a great new course on offer – a qualification in Food Hygiene – which I’m sure will interest a good number of you (and we’ve managed to negotiate a special price for DASH members with the tutor too!). The date will be fixed as soon as numbers are sufficient – and I suspect that this could well become one of our regular courses.
And finally – for your interest we’re publishing a full list of all the DASH courses we have run over the years for you to peruse. Please let me know if there’s anything there you’d like me to follow up.

3. A cheque made out to DASH for the full amount per person attending and a stamped addressed envelope for each course (if you’re booking more than one) for the return of your receipt, course voucher and instructions.
Children are allowed on some courses at half price. Please check before booking.

Learn to make a herbal ‘First Aid Box’ for use at home. The course will consider the herbs that can be safely used as remedies at home and will include ointment making.

This course, run by a vet, covers: lameness, parasitic skin disease, worms, vaccination, injection technique, drug storage & record keeping.

259/55 - Locker Hooking - FULL
This is a great way of using your sheep’s wool, or any left-over fabric you might have, to make lovely rugs and mats. The results are impressive and there is no need to spin the wool first. You can make coasters, place mats, casserole and teapot stands out of fabric and floor mats, rugs and cushion covers from wool or you can use the same technique to create wall-hangings. It is easy to learn, relaxing and enjoyable.

This is a taster course to give an overview of all the available technologies and allow you to experience the main methods of producing renewable energy. The day will cover: wind power up to 15 kilowatt output, photovoltaic and solar electric panels, woodburners and biomass (woodchip, pellet or shavings and straw) boilers. The course is held on site at the Discovery Centre at Beeson where there are working examples of most of the above, including a wind turbine.

This popular course is run over two days and covers getting started, rules and regulations, paperwork, land management, creating habitats, machinery, stocking, fencing and much more. Part round the table and part out on a working holding.

This course will cover the basic health and maintenance of your tractor including fuel, electrical and hydraulic systems. It will also address maintenance of common farm machinery such as hay mowers, turners, bailers and trailers.

This course will give you the basic understanding to enable you to create & manage a wildlife pond in your garden or field; we will cover management of sediment, weeds, dam creation, legal permissions required etc. and will visit a couple of local examples.

An introduction to weaving using frame looms and table looms. The course is a basic introduction to tapestry weaving, learning techniques for weaving a variety of patterns. You can also try your hand at weaving on a large floor loom.

Would you like to learn how to make cheese, yogurt, or cream products? 265/59 Food Hygiene
Legislation states that all Food Handlers must receive Food Hygiene Training commensurate with their work. The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering is a recognized qualification that meets this requirement. The course is a one day programme covering the following topics: Legislation; Food Safety Hazards; Temperature Control; Refrigeration, chilling and cold holding; Cooking, hot holding and reheating; Principles of safe food storage; Cleaning; Food Handling; Food Premises and equipment.

A follow on from our introductory course with an experienced bee keeper covering how to handle and manage your bees. This course has a practical element which requires full protective clothing, including minimally a veil and smock.
